Album Review: Omar Rodriguez-Lopez
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at 1:00PM Xenophanes is Omar Rodriguez-Lopez's 12th album. This record is insanely haunting. It sounds like it it came out of a dream of a psychedelic wonderland. The great thing about this album is that it's all in spanish. Some artists, forget to embrace their roots through their music. Omar bleeds and sweats his heritage to the fullest. Omar is known as a member of bands At The Drive-In and The Mars Volta, but his solo work is very impressive and totally out of the norm. With thrilling guitar solos and mesmerizing lyrics, you could literally get lost in this world of honest and pure music. This record can also turn the switch. Some tracks can be really dark and very hard rock, but mostly the sound is very enlightening and melodic.
The track list is unbelievable. Every song on this record has its own flavor. Xenophanes has a strong sound throughout the whole album, so you'll never be bored with any of the songs. Track favorites include “Mundo de Ciegos”and “Amanita Virosa”. “Mundo de Ciegos” is an incredible song. The keyboards in this song are out of this world, and the message is very mind opening. “Amanita Virosa” is very upbeat and psychedelic. Towards the middle of this song, it changes courses and sounds like a Mars Volta song. It also has a very spacey feel to it and you feel like you should be on Space Mountain at Disneyland. Best track on this record is “Maria Celeste”. This love song was created the right way. The guitar riffs are indescribable. The lyrics are so passionate and it sticks out from the rest. It was made to sound different from the rest.
Xenophanes is worth dishing out the bucks for. Even if you don't understand spanish, just the music itself is amazing. Omar Rodriguez-Lopez has made yet another successful record. He was meant to create such weird and mind blowing music. He's a genius and the Eisenstein of the millennium. Rodriguez-Lopez is set out to release three more solo albums including a live album with his new group El Trio de Omar Rodriguez-Lopez. These albums will only be released digitally and on vinyl.

Hi, I know he's releasing Solar Gambling and La Ciencia de Los Inutiles (I think that's the name of El Trio's record), but didn't know anything about a live album, do you have any source for that?
