Concert Review: All Time Low
Friday, November 13, 2009 at 2:39PM All Time Low burst onto the scene over the summer when their new album, Nothing Personal, debuted at #4 on the Billboard charts. They rolled through Hollywood recently on the Glamour Kills tour. The other bands on the tour are We the Kings and Hey Monday. For whatever reason We the Kings wasn’t included on the Hollywood stop of the tour. In place of that during Hey Monday’s set a few members of All Time Low joined the band to play a cover of We The Kings’ “Check Yes, Juliet.”
All Time Low took the stage shortly after Hey Monday was finished, and as the House of Blues curtains parted they revealed what had to have been one of the most intricate sets ever to be placed on that stage. There were ample amounts of lights and light racks as well as a riser for Rian’s drums. The other three members of the band also had boxes to jump on and off of while playing. It seems as if whoever put this tour together decided to make a miniature version of an arena show. Lights and fog filled the small House of Blues venue and the band ran up and down the stage like Billy Joe Armstrong does when Green Day plays soccer stadiums.
The show started off explosive, and maintained the energy for about a third of the time. Then the band left the stage and Alex returned with an acoustic guitar. He did a few acoustic tracks, which succeeded in making every fourteen-year-old girl in the building weak in the knees. During one of the songs Alex was joined by Cassadee from Hey Monday.
After the acoustic set the band came back on stage and it was back to the same old high-energy, enthusiastic, and fun All Time Low rock show. The band came out for one encore, which included their smash hit, “Damned If I Do Ya (Damned If I Don’t).” Other highlights in the set were “Weightless,” “Break Your Little Heart,” and “Stella.”
Ever since the summer, All Time Low has been on a meteoric rise to fame. One that hasn’t been seen in about a decade. They have become fully embraced by both the Warped Tour/ Pop Punk scene and the mainstream outlets such as MTV, Fuse, etc. Hopefully All Time Low can keep their momentum going and churn out another catchy album soon.
All Time Low puts on the best show of any band in their genre. They really have fun up on stage and love to interact with the audience. This highly produced tour of smaller venues like House of Blues hopefully is just a taste of what could be if the band is given a space like The Greek Theatre or Staples Center. It would be very interesting to see what this band could accomplish with a larger space and bigger production budget.
