The Rock n Roll Super Show.

Daniel Ash, formerly of Love and Rockets and Bauhaus, is back in the studio prepping his new solo album for Arsenal Rock N Roll/Justice Records due out in 2010. Daniel stated that the album is just in the beginning stages, he only has four or five tracks currently. However, a single will be dropping next month. Daniel has recorded a cover of “Rock On” and it is releasing in June via digital download and 7” electric blue vinyl. The single will be followed by an EP that will release sometime in 2009. Daniel isn't putting too much emphasis on the album as a whole though. He said, “I'm not sure if albums even exist anymore, they seem like a thing of the past. People have the attention span of a mosquito. Now people can go on iTunes and buy just the songs they want.”

Regarding distribution of his new material, Daniel seems to want to stick to the modern model of iTunes sales. He thinks what Radiohead did with the pay what you want was amazing, but what works for Radiohead might not work for everyone. An artist like Radiohead has such a built in fanbase that they can do something like that, but someone like Daniel Ash would most likely have a harder time being successful with a business model like that. The whole record industry has changed, “10 years ago you would be with a record company, make a record, and then go promote. Now you make the album for nothing and make a living playing live.”

As far as live performances, Daniel has none planned in the immediate future. He is more interested in scoring a movie or TV show than touring. He currently has some tracks on JJ Abrams' new show, Fringe, and is looking for more opportunities like that.

And as for Love and Rockets? “Love and Rockets is completely over,” Daniel said. After 30 years of playing with Love and Rockets and Bauhaus, Daniel is trying to move onto different things. He is “always trying to do something that is sonically different.” Look for Daniel's new single sometime next month, and more new material before the end of the year.
